The DIY mode in the app is way easier than I expected, I drew a little train animation myself in ten minutes. Strands are dense too, no gaps in the pattern at all.

Wipe the strands and cables down with a dry or slightly damp cloth, and coil the string loosely around its holder for storage in a cool, dry place between seasons.
It's IP44 rated, so light rain and snow are no problem — just avoid submerging it or leaving it in standing water.
